I’m looking to experience Earthworm Jim but I’m not sure which version to dive into. I’ve heard positive things about the Genesis versions, but I’ve also stumbled upon a GBA version. Any suggestions on which platform provides the best experience, especially in terms of gameplay, graphics, and sound?

I’ve tried the SNES and Sega versions, and honestly, they’re quite similar—though I thought the music was a bit better on the Sega. That said, I wouldn’t get your hopes up for the GBA version, as handheld ports usually cut down on graphics and sound details. If you like variety in classics, maybe skip out on the Gameboy release.
If you like a challenge, go for the Genesis version. It’s touted as the most faithful experience with all the intended content. While other versions tend to trim some critical elements like entire levels or music, Genesis nails it all. Fair warning, it’s pretty tough but great if you’re up for it!
It’s hard to beat the Windows 95 version. It’s basically an improved port of the Sega CD version with enhancements, like better colors and less dithering. Compared to the Genesis or SNES versions, Windows 95 offers superior audio and visuals, plus it has a password system, which is pretty neat.
Get ready for a hair-pulling ride because Earthworm Jim is just as frustrating as it is fun. Navigate with caution—Jim takes a lot of space on the screen which sometimes hides what’s coming at you. Those leap-of-faith moments can drive you up the wall.
For good visuals and nostalgia, the Mega CD or Sega CD is worth it. That said, the ‘Heck’ level using Night on Bald Mountain is a nostalgic treat, and definitely worth playing just for that auditory experience.
