I’m curious why we haven’t seen an RX 9080 XT yet. We have the RX 9060 XT and the RX 9070 series, but no sign of the 9080 XT or 9090 XT. Are there any plans for these models or are they just not happening?

Many believe AMD just played it safe this time. The architecture looks solid, and cramming more compute units on a bigger die could have really impressed, but it feels like they held back.
It seems pretty unlikely that AMD will release an RDNA 4 GPU to go above the 9070 XT. They’re focusing on gaining market share first and want to introduce competitive features before launching something like an 80 or 90 class GPU.
Honestly, I think this topic is kind of absurd. Why even discuss something that doesn’t seem to be happening?
According to the latest Steam Hardware survey, top models like the 4080 and 4080 Super have been outselling the 7900 XTX by about 3 to 1. Even with some recent discounts on the 7900 XTX, AMD didn’t develop larger GPUs this generation because it appears that higher-end buyers tend to lean toward other brands.
The 9070 XT was basically just a rebrand of what could have been the 8800 XT. They changed the SKUs to better align with their competition’s naming convention.
But I’m really curious! Can you explain what makes it ridiculous?
