My daughter’s been really into gaming lately and was captivated watching me play through the dramatic end of Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. Usually, I don’t play games in front of her, but she expressed a desire to play the game I was playing instead of some simpler kids’ games like the Bluey game we have for the Switch. I’m considering starting her with a LEGO game, but I’m looking for suggestions on other age-appropriate games that have action and a decent story. She’s a tough little princess who loves unicorns, action, and games with cutscenes, but I know games like H:ZD are too mature for her right now. Any recommendations?

Next up from H:ZD could be ‘Forbidden West’…just kidding! Seriously, LEGO games are fantastic for learning and fun, but also keep an eye on Zelda: Breath of the Wild for a few years down the line; she might love that too!
Zelda can be too complex now, but it’s good to save for when she’s older!
You can’t go wrong with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy! It has a charming fairy tale vibe and is straightforward with plenty of exploration. Just make sure to switch on the retro soundtrack for added nostalgia!
Definitely! My kids enjoyed the fun and simplicity of it.
Great rec! I think she’ll love the colorful world of Spyro.
How about Minecraft Dungeons? It’s a fun co-op experience that mixes adventure with creativity, perfect for her age group!
Totally! And it’s super engaging for kids, especially with the creativity they can unleash in Minecraft.
I love that suggestion. She and her older sister can team up, which is a bonus!
Honestly, a LEGO game sounds like a solid choice! LEGO The Movie game could be great since it features a unicorn cat princess. It’s fun and approachable for her age.
Yeah, she might be ready for something a bit more adventurous. She’s clearly growing out of the typical kiddie stuff!
For sure! And there’s LEGO: Horizon Adventures too, which is a bit of a quirky pick but fits perfectly with your daughter’s interest in H:ZD.
You might want to check out LEGO Fortnite. My child loves building in it, and it also has a light story campaign without online interactions. Really kid-friendly!
That sounds perfect since I’ve been looking for offline play options. She loves building things!
Yes! It’s a great fit. The building element can keep her entertained for hours.
Astro’s Playroom has been a hit with my girls, ages 6 and 9. They also love games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Sonic Frontiers, and Minecraft (which you can play together). Oh, and don’t forget about Untitled Goose Game, though that can get a bit chaotic without adult supervision!
Thanks for the suggestions! R&C and Sonic sound awesome. I’ll probably need to be there with her as she figures them out.
For sure! Games like that can be super fun together. She’ll enjoy the co-op experience.
Haha! Definitely keeping that one for later. But yeah, LEGO seems to be the way forward.
