I’ve been diving into MediEvil (1998) and was really surprised by the amount of lore and worldbuilding it offers—it’s actually quite impressive! Are there any other games out there that have a similar depth of lore that might catch me off guard?

Destiny is another game overflowing with lore. The amount is quite overwhelming, and it really adds layers to the gameplay and universe. Just remember that the creative decisions sometimes lead the devs to rewrite parts of it, which can be a bummer.
I was going to say Halo. Bungie had so much lore figured out right from the get-go!
If you’re like me and usually skip lore collectables, give Control a shot. I ended up reading or listening to everything I could find in that game, and it really enhanced my experience of the unsettling story.
The Elder Scrolls series has an exceptionally expansive lore. From ancient dwarven histories to the political conflicts between races, it delves deep into the gods and daedra. Morrowind alone offers loads of surprising content that adds to the universe’s depth!
Yeah, TES has an enormous amount of lore, even creation myths. It’s incredible how detailed it all is.
Have you tried Noita? At first glance, it lacks lore, but if you branch off the intended paths, you’ll uncover more questions than answers. Super intriguing!
I don’t usually go for roguelites but this sold me immediately.
You’d be amazed at how much lore is packed into Splatoon! It covers everything from humanity’s extinction in wars to the evolution of squids and the major conflicts between inklings and octolings. It’s definitely more than just a colorful shooter!
This is the kinda answer I was looking for.
If you’re into ARPGs, check out Path of Exile. You can rush through it without caring about story, but once you start digging into the lore, you’ll uncover thousands of years of rich history and cultures that really twist what you thought about the game. Huge eye-opener for me!
It’s a shame the devs occasionally just burn it all down.
