I’m really into how Cyberpunk 2077 handled its dialogue options. It created this intense atmosphere where you really had to consider whether to make a choice or just let the time run out and do nothing, which became a choice in itself. Are there any other games out there that offer this kind of mechanic? I’m looking for games where the option to do nothing is revealed by allowing the timer to expire, rather than just having a straight-up ‘do nothing’ button to select.

If you’re looking for a similar experience, the Telltale’s Walking Dead series has those moments where you can stay silent, especially during tense situations. It really makes you think about your choices!
Most RPGs with dialogue systems include timed choices like The Witcher or Mass Effect, but they often allow you to wait without a penalty. The mechanic you’re looking for might be less common, especially in those games. Mass Effect’s Paragon/Renegade interrupts are close but a bit different since you need to act in those. It sounds like you want it to be more of a strategic pause rather than just random selection.
Yeah, it’s frustrating when the choices feel random. It really takes away the tension.
You should definitely try Katana Zero! It incorporates timed decisions and has layers of strategy that could scratch that itch you’re talking about.
Pretty much any game by Telltale has these timed moments where you can choose silence. It’s definitely a big part of their storytelling style. You might want to check out other Telltale games too!
The Sakura Wars series also has some great dialogue moments that might fit the bill. They blend story and choices in an engaging way.
That’s exactly what I mean! I want something that feels intentional rather than just letting the game pick for you.
