Imagine you have one year left to live, but the focus is on gaming. What titles in your backlog have you always wanted to play, but haven’t gotten around to yet? Consider this a fun thought experiment about the games you feel you must try. It’s not about how you’d spend your last year holistically, but simply what long-ignored games you’d finally pick up.

If I were in that position, I’d definitely dive into the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series right away. They’ve been sitting on my list for ages, and I hear they’re just epic stories worth experience. But honestly, beyond a few must-plays, I’d probably focus on making memories with people instead.
It feels like I’d just stick to replaying classics like Far Cry 3 or Bioshock. If I’m going out, I might as well leave with fond memories of my favorite experiences.
Seeing as your question is more hypothetical, I think Shenmue 1 & 2 would be something I’d finally buckle down to play. It’s like two games in one, so that feels like a bonus for the limited time!
Cyberpunk 2077 would be top of my backlog list. It was hyped up so much and although I’ve played other fantastic games, this one keeps standing out. From what I’ve read, despite its bumpy launch, the story really shines now.
I’d make time for the FF7 remake series. I’ve been putting it off until all parts are out, but if push came to shove, I’d just dive in now. From what I’ve heard, even just the first two parts are a brilliant reimagining.
Don’t forget Crisis Core! Plays a crucial part in the lore, and it’s pretty fun too.
That’s a solid choice! You’d have some incredible side quests and choices to explore. Phantom Liberty’s DLC only enhances the experience.
