I’m looking for games that have CPU or NPC characters that behave in a way similar to real players. It’s tricky because most AI either becomes too easy to exploit or relies on unfair advantages. What I really want are challenges where the AI operates under the same rules as humans, displays solid decision-making skills, and has the occasional slip-up. Also, the hardest difficulty level should still provide a tough challenge, even when you’re already good at the game. Genre isn’t a concern, so I’m open to any suggestions!

Ready or Not is a solid pick for what you’re looking for! There’s no difficulty settings, but it’s tough as nails even for experienced players. The enemies react to your actions—flanking, coordinating, and generally being realistic, though it has its quirks.
You might want to check out Alien: Isolation or Metal Gear Solid V as well. Both have smart AI—like in MGSV, if you get a lot of headshots, enemies start wearing helmets to counter you. It’s great to see how they adapt to your play style!
That’s a cool detail! Adapting AI really adds a layer to the gameplay.
Fear 1 is a classic! Even though it’s over 15 years old, people still rave about its enemy AI. The foes act in squads and work together to outsmart the player, making it a real challenge.
Absolutely! It keeps things fresh and challenging.
