I’m looking to build a Cataclysm Druid in Diablo and I’ve come across the term ‘snapshot build.’ I’ve heard mixed feelings about it from others. Can someone explain what it means and how it works?

So, snapshotting is really about building up your buffs and then unleashing them all at once with Cataclysm. You want to trigger your peak damage moments just before casting. The spell then takes a snapshot of your buffs and keeps that damage level until it can refresh. Just make sure you manage your cooldowns to benefit fully from the setup! This can be super effective if played right.
A snapshot build revolves around chaining effects of your skills in a specific order to maximize damage output. Once you’ve built up your buffs and reach a peak, you activate Cataclysm which captures your current stats for a set period. If you’re interrupted, you’ll need to start all over again with the chain. Essentially, it’s about stacking those effects to get the best bang for your buck before you can recast it.
Honestly, if you’re thinking of using the lightning build for your Druid, you might want to reconsider. Managing cooldowns and continuously babysitting the ability can really take the fun out of the game. I’ve tried it and it felt more like a chore than an enjoyable aspect of gameplay.
