Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received tons of praise early on, but I’m curious about how the second half holds up. JRPGs often face issues maintaining their momentum in the lengthy middle sections, as seen with Tales of Arise. Now that more players have completed the game and moved beyond the popular intro, I’d love to hear opinions on whether Expedition 33 struggles to keep interest in the latter half. How did you find your experience after such a strong start?

The second half has a mixed reception. Some players really connected with the story twists, while others felt it lost some steam compared to the beginning. If you loved the concept of the world being erased by the Paintress, you might find yourself frustrated with how the story develops later on, since it shifts away from the straightforward ‘big bad’ narrative.
The second half felt better to me in terms of gameplay, although I thought the narrative dipped slightly. It’s still engaging, just not quite as impactful as the beginning. You’ll likely find some enjoyment, but manage your expectations!
I think a lot hinges on personal taste. Some folks felt the narrative fell apart after Act 2 but loved the gameplay mechanics. It does have some pacing issues and not everyone liked the character arcs that develop later, but it’s worth a shot if you enjoyed the initial parts.
For many, the second half is the standout part, despite a smaller group feeling Act 3 has issues. I think as long as you’re prepared for some optional content during Act 3, you’ll enjoy the gameplay. Just note, if you explore extensively, you might find the final boss a bit easy.
Definitely! I finished at level 70 and the final boss was a walk in the park. But the superbosses look intense!
While I was initially dragged down by the pacing in the earlier parts, I found the second half gained a lot of momentum for me. The gameplay was fun, and I found myself actively seeking battles even in the final dungeon. Overall, it was a good ride until the end!
There’s tons of foreshadowing, so if you’re not expecting some plot twists, you’re in for a surprise!
