I have been exploring the planet and I came across this weird looking purple structure with stars and stuff on it. There is an input on the main platform. I got an achievement for finding it, says that this thing is called a gateway chamber. What is it and what does it do?

Gateway chambers are used for something pretty cool. I do not really want to spoil it for you but they will allow you to teleport places.
