I’m curious about those terrifying moments from our childhood gaming experiences. For me, it was seeing the balverines for the first time in Fable; they still give me the chills just thinking about them. What about you guys? What moments in games scared you as kids?

I think the worst for me was the very first zombie encounter in Resident Evil 1. That cutscene where the zombie slowly turned around after munching on a teammate—absolute nightmare fuel! I was around 13 and got banned from playing when my brother freaked out and started crying. Such a memorable gaming horror.
The first time I encountered the Flood in Halo: Combat Evolved was horrifying! I was around 10, and the whole scenario with the marines getting overwhelmed sent me into full panic mode. I couldn’t handle it and just Alt-F4’d the game immediately!
I was similar! The tension just ramped up when the Flood started flooding in. I had to walk away and take a breather after that, no way I could keep playing.
Oh man, pulling the Master Sword in Ocarina of Time and getting greeted by those terrifying zombies was a childhood nightmare! I swear I nearly threw my controller. Now, thinking back, it adds to the game’s charm, but it was intense back then!
Totally agree! Those redeads were the stuff of nightmares—I couldn’t go near Hyrule Castle for ages after that.
Seriously! The tension when you know something’s lurking just waiting for you to make a move… it was too much for me!
Same here! Initially, I was already scared of the Covenant, but once the Flood came in, it was game over for me.
