I’m curious to hear about everyone’s encounters with superbosses in the Final Fantasy series. If you’re not familiar, superbosses are those optional, often hidden bosses that provide a seriously tough challenge. My first experience was with Omega and Shinryuu in Final Fantasy 5. I was emulating it and trying to complete the game with all my characters intact, which was no easy feat, but I eventually succeeded! I’m also excited to dive into the PS2 titles, as I’ve heard they have some pretty epic superbosses. What about you all? What superbosses have you faced that made a lasting impression?

I won’t spoil anything, but in FFIX there’s a moment when the optional boss Hades acknowledges how you defeated Ozma. It adds a cool layer to those encounters! Don’t want to spoil too much for you, but I recommend facing those bosses when you get to them.
Minerva in Crisis Core was a pain! In Reunion’s hard mode, she has 77,777,777 HP while your max damage per hit is only 99,999. She’s a slog to beat, but you can use Gil Toss to make it quicker—though grinding 150 million Gil takes ages.
What’s the best way to find her in the Reunion Edition?
The final boss from the Echoes of the Fallen DLC in FF16 was a proper challenge! I had to take a breather halfway through, which I’ve never done before. It really hits you with that nostalgia too!
I haven’t played the DLC yet, but I took a breather against Titan. At least now I know to prepare for Bahamut!
Seriously, that boss was insane!
For me, Omega and Shinryuu in FF5 were brutal! I wasn’t ready at all and ended up doing so much research just to get through. I remember Shinryuu wiping my party with a flood attack, except for Bartz who narrowly managed to take him down after that. I tried facing Emerald and Ruby Weapons in FF7 but didn’t succeed. Planning to go back to finish them off, though!
I totally gave up on Omega in XII years ago. Hoping to finally beat him on my next playthrough.
I found out recently that you can actually one-shot Omega in the Pixel Remaster! It feels less daunting now.
Emerald Weapon in FFVII kicked my butt so many times! I went in underleveled but it was such a fun fight. The rest of the game was pretty easy, but that superboss was a whole different story.
I want to fight those bosses, but don’t spoil it too much!
