Hey everyone! I’m diving into Owlcat’s Rogue Trader game and loving it, despite some quirks. I’m curious about the lore surrounding Rogue Traders and their origins. Here are my questions: 1) Can anyone really be made a Rogue Trader heir just because they’re a distant relative with a Warrant of Trade? 2) Are there specific limitations on who can become a Rogue Trader? For example, could a priest, tech-priest, sister of battle, navigator, sister of silence, or psyker be an heir? And what if a relative has been turned into a space marine—do they still qualify? 3) Do Rogue Traders have to give up their unsanctioned psyker children? They seem to operate above many laws, so what’s the deal with that? Is there a special rule for dealing with chaos-touched psykers, or do they just go to the Black Ships like everyone else? 4) Lastly, what happens if there are no heirs left? Is the Warrant revoked, auctioned off, or handed to a loyal supporter? Just curious about that one!

1. Yes, heirs can be picked based on the terms set in the Warrant. If you meet the conditions, you inherit. 2. It depends on the Warrant. Basically, if you can convince the right people, almost anyone could become a Rogue Trader, assuming it doesn’t conflict with the family line. 3. They’re supposed to hand over unsanctioned psykers, but Rogue Traders often have enough power to try to protect them. Actual enforcement depends on the situation. 4. If a Warrant loses its heirs, it usually becomes defunct unless they find a new heir or can adopt someone.
1. Inheritability really hinges on the contract terms in the Warrant. Newer ones are stricter about heirs, while older Warrants can be vague. 2. Nearly anyone with enough influence can earn a Warrant, including powerful figures like Inquisitors or ecclesiarchy members. Navigators and Sisters of Silence are tricky since they have specific familial rules. 3. Rogue Traders take a big risk by hiding unsanctioned psykers. While they might get away with it, the potential fallout is serious if discovered. 4. If the terms can’t be met, the Warrant could be revoked by the authority that issued it or a powerful alternative could take over or assign a new heir.
Pretty much anyone can become a Rogue Trader if they have enough resources and connections. Even people like priests or tech-priests might find a way, as long as they fit the right profile. 3) Though they’re technically supposed to relinquish unsanctioned psykers, many find ways around the system. It’s all about who holds the power and can enforce the rules. 4) If no heirs remain, civil wars can break out among factions, and sometimes, those who swear loyalty can be given the Warrant if they can prove themselves worthy.
