I’m really intrigued by games that feature a narrator. When done right, they can add a compelling layer to the gameplay and story; otherwise, they might feel like a distraction. I’ve recently played Disco Elysium and Baldur’s Gate 3, both of which have fantastic narrators. What other games do you recommend that showcase great narration?

You can’t miss Slay the Princess and The Stanley Parable for their meta commentary on narration. Both games play around with their narrators in clever ways. If you like those, try The Beginner’s Guide too! Another one worth mentioning is The Puppeteer, where the narrator interacts with characters like it’s an actual puppet show.
Adding on, Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald also meld humor and narration excellently!
Don’t sleep on Darkest Dungeon! It has a narrator whose commentary can be quite entertaining and dark, which fits the game’s vibe perfectly. The voice acting is phenomenal too!
Exactly! The narration adds a lot to the atmosphere – RIP Wayne June for his epic voice!
Yes! The grim commentary really enhances the stress and pressure of the game.
I think Fable does a great job with narration. Tidus in Final Fantasy X narrates his story throughout, and it really pulls you in. If you’re into VR, check out Moss and Moss Book 2 – the narrator does an incredible job bringing the game to life.
Fable’s approach to narration ties seamlessly into the gameplay. Good call!
I love the way Tidus narrates in FFX! It truly feels like you’re experiencing a journey, not just playing a game.
Bastion is a classic with an amazing narrator who reacts to your actions in real-time. It’s one of the earliest examples of a narratively driven game that’s not just a visual novel or walking sim. You should also check out Supergiant Games’ other titles for similar narration styles!
Definitely! Supergiant’s games all have unique storytelling elements, each with fantastic voice work.
Totally agree! The narrator in Bastion makes the gameplay so much more engaging.
Oh man, The Stanley Parable is a masterpiece! It plays with expectations in such a fun way.
