I’m new to the game and curious about companions. Besides having actual human players as buddies, what are some good companion options? Are there any romanceable characters I should know about?

In this game, you won’t find companions like in previous Fallout titles. Instead, you get camp allies, each providing unique bonuses. For example, Leo can grant you a solid XP boost with a Nuka-Cola Cranberry, and Adelaide can lower the damage you take from robot attacks. There are technically romance options like Beckett, Commander Daguerre, and Adelaide. Adelaide is the only one who really shows that she’s interested in a romantic relationship. Sleeping near your allies might give you a “lover’s embrace” status, but it’s not super in-depth. Plus, you can have pets like dogs and cats as companions too!
So, you can actually romance a deathclaw through a character named Rose, which is pretty wild! In total, there are two romantic companions you can pursue, but they are a bit insecure. They tend to think you might break up with them when you chat them up! As for the best companions, it really comes down to what you want. Each one offers different buffs, and while some also give you little quests, none excel at camp defense except for Obaachan Junko. She managed to fend off an angler with her rolling pin, so that’s pretty impressive!
I have to say, Adelaide is my go-to. Not just because she’s funny, but her interfacing skills are incredibly handy for raids. To get on her good side romantically, make sure to grab the note “Adelaide’s Reminder” from the Casino Quarter! Just keep in mind, it’s a different vibe from older Fallout games where companions were more prevalent.
