I’m on the lookout for horror games that feature simple controls and a linear progression, perfect for a one-time scary experience with my girlfriend. When I say simple controls, I mean games that avoid complex mechanics like shooting or high-action gameplay. Ideally, I’m looking for titles where we can walk around, hold a flashlight, and maybe complete tasks like ‘go grab this’ or ‘activate that.’ Also, the story should be straightforward without open-world chaos or challenging puzzles like those in ‘Resident Evil.’ Any suggestions?

What about ‘Alien Isolation’? It’s largely stealth-focused, and while you can scare off the xenomorph with fire, combat is really limited. It’s a fantastic horror experience that’s held up well over the years, even if it’s been out for a while!
Thanks for the tips! Sounds like a great balance of scary and manageable.
Soma is a good pick! It has you exploring smaller, contained areas with some stealth gameplay but no combat. Also, don’t miss ‘Observation,’ where you play as an AI on a space station solving puzzles, and ‘Moons of Madness,’ which offers Lovecraftian horror in space without heavy combat. ‘The Observer’ is also worth mentioning—it’s a detective game with a horror twist set in a cyberpunk world, focusing more on exploration and puzzles.
You might want to try ‘Corpse Party,’ which appears cute but is pretty scary once you dive in. Just keep in mind it’s an older title, and if you’re looking for something different, ‘Danganronpa’ is a fantastic story-driven game about solving murders in a school setting. It’s pretty popular among players too!
You should check out ‘Iron Lung.’ It’s a unique experience where you pilot a submarine and take pictures in a creepy underwater setting. The controls are simple, and it’s definitely got a chilling atmosphere.
If you’ve got access to a PC or laptop, consider ‘Lethal Company.’ It’s a wild mix of scary and hilarious with simple gameplay. You might have a fun time with it!
Yeah, the combat is minimal, but you do have to deal with some aggressive droids and human enemies, which adds to the tension! Just be careful not to make too much noise or you might attract the xenomorph!
