I’m on the lookout for some cool indie games that focus on exploration and have engaging weapon and ability systems. I’m currently playing Blasphemous 2 and while I find its exploration interesting, the backtracking feels a bit tedious. I appreciate the various abilities and weapons it offers, similar to ones I enjoyed in Children of Morta and Wizard of Legend, but those games lacked open-ended exploration.
On the exploration side, I really liked Starbound, flying around different planets was a lot of fun, even though I’m not super into crafting. I prefer games I can just pick up and play, and I’m not looking to dive deep into something like RDR2 or No Man’s Sky right now. Any recommendations?

You might really enjoy playing Undermine! It has some exploration elements and feels pretty refreshing compared to what you’ve mentioned. Plus, the gameplay mechanics can be quite fun to mess around with.
Have you tried Hollow Knight? I know it’s more Metroidvania-style, but the exploration is top-notch. It’s worth a shot, even if it didn’t grab you initially. It might surprise you!
Hollow Knight didn’t really pull me in, but maybe I could give it another go. I’m just hoping for something more in line with Starbound’s vibe.
Core Keeper could be right up your alley! It has plenty of exploration and crafting, but the exploration aspect is very prominent, especially in multiplayer. Worth checking out!
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night also has some exploration elements along with a unique weapon system that might pique your interest! It’s a solid choice if you’re into that style.
I actually played and beat Undermine! It was a blast.
