I’ve been a PC gamer for years, but recently my PC got old and I’ve been on the road as a truck driver for the last three years. All my AAA titles are on my PS5, but I just got a Steam Deck and bought Hades 2 and No Rest for the Wicked (hoping they run well). I’m looking to rebuild my library with tons of metroidvania games, but I’m also open to other action RPGs or games with really good combat, whether they’re isometric, 2D, or otherwise. Any recommendations for solid indie games with engaging combat? Thanks!

Salt & Sanctuary is a great indie metroidvania with a combat system inspired by classic souls-like games. Also, if you’re looking to grab a bunch of metroidvanias, there’s usually a good bundle deal going on on Humble Bundle that’s worth checking out.
Wizard of Legend and Hyper Light Drifter are fantastic for fast-paced, skillful combat with great pixel art style. Also, if you’re into co-op beat-em-ups, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge is a blast with solid combat mechanics.
You might want to look at Sifu if you want something third-person with deep combat. The fighting is the main focus and it’s really well done, very satisfying and challenging.
Hollow Knight and Dead Cells are classics in the metroidvania and rogue-lite space, both have smooth combat systems. Also, Nine Sols is on my radar; it’s got some impressive visuals and action RPG mechanics if you want something a bit different.
You should definitely check out Furi if you haven’t already. It’s a fast-paced boss rush game with tight, skill-based combat that really challenges your reflexes and strategy.
Oh nice, I actually had that wishlisted on PS5. I’ll put it on my Steam list now, thanks!
I’ve beaten Hollow Knight and own Dead Cells on every system, but I really struggle with it! Nine Sols is definitely next up for me, I grabbed it on Game Pass but haven’t gotten around to playing it yet.
