I’m looking for video games that focus on exploring mysterious worlds and encountering new creatures. I’ve played plenty of Soulsborne games and I’m seeking something different. I really enjoy the awe-inspiring experiences of titles like Dark Souls or Horizon Zero Dawn, where every corner reveals a new challenge or storyline through environmental storytelling. A game that highlights these elements, like Monster Hunter, would be ideal. Are there any lesser-known games that fit this theme?

You might want to check out Grounded. It’s a survival/exploration game where you play as a teenager shrunk down to bug size in a backyard. The thrill of discovering what’s hiding around the corner is fantastic! Plus, it’s interesting how familiar settings can feel bizarre due to the unique perspective.
Subnautica and its sequel, Below Zero, are great picks for exploring underwater mysteries. The original game is especially immersive, so dive in blind and enjoy the surprises! Just a heads-up, Below Zero didn’t hit the same note for me, but it’s still worth a look.
The studio behind these, ‘Unknown Worlds,’ is really dedicated to creating immersive experiences!
Totally agree! Subnautica is amazing, though I’ll admit Below Zero wasn’t as captivating for me.
If you want a more story-driven experience, check out Returnal. It’s set in a strange world filled with mystery and lore. Players have raved about how captivating it is—definitely one to consider! Just be aware of its challenging difficulty levels.
I’ve been eyeing Returnal for a while but heard it’s quite tough. Is it worth the grind?
Sounds awesome! I’d love a game where there are epic fantasy creatures—but oversized bugs are cool too.
