I’m on the lookout for games that feature a hunt side quest system similar to Final Fantasy XII. Ideally, I want a system that runs alongside the main storyline throughout the game, rather than something like the Pulse system in Final Fantasy XIII. I’m interested in hunting bounties to score some cool gear. The battle system can vary; I’m not into MMOs, though. A close example I think of is the elite enemies in Xenoblade 2. I’m open to any platform or console. What other games are out there that fit this description?

You might enjoy Battle Chasers: Nightwar; it has a hunt system similar to what you’re describing.
What do you think of Monster Hunter games? They have a hunt-style gameplay that might interest you!
Here are some great options that come to mind:
– Final Fantasy XV & XVI
– World of Final Fantasy (you tackle them in an arena)
– Final Fantasy Tactics Advance & A2
– Rogue Galaxy
– Both Ni No Kuni games
– Chained Echoes
– Skies of Arcadia
– The Metal Max series
– The Last Remnant
– Shin Megami Tensei IV
– Fantasy Life series
– Tales of Arise (features boss monsters scattered around that act like bounty hunts)
– Granblue Fantasy: Relink
Arc the Lad 2 features a solid JRPG experience with its bounty system. It’s definitely an underrated gem!
Absolutely! Arc the Lad deserves more recognition in the JRPG world.
If you haven’t checked out the Metal Max series, it’s worth a look. Your main character is a hunter, so the job revolves around hunting various marks. While it’s connected to the main story, there are plenty of optional hunts. Plus, it’s turn-based and you even get to pilot tanks!
I hadn’t heard of this series before, thanks for mentioning it!
Metal Max Xeno for PS3 was one of the best RPGs I played on that system. I totally forgot about it but it was amazing, with so many tough fights!
I’ve also thought about this! Final Fantasy XVI has a hunt system, and you might want to check out Pirate Yakuza, which includes a bounty system, albeit not very in-depth.
I enjoy Monster Hunter! Actually, I’m a fan of Wild Hearts—such a hidden gem—but I’m looking for something a bit different since I just played that.
