I’m on the hunt for games that allow me to own a house or land, but I’m not interested in survival games where I have to build everything from scratch. I’m thinking more along the lines of Skyrim, where I can acquire a home and upgrade it as I please. I’m also looking for games that require a decent amount of grinding to set up compared to Skyrim.

Have you thought about Elder Scrolls Online? It has an awesome housing system but be warned, most of the houses can be pricey in real life money. Still, you can go all out on decorating and there are tons of options for crafting and furnishing. Some players create jaw-dropping homes from unique materials!
While most of the games I know are survival-focused like Minecraft or The Forest, they do offer a lot of building freedom, though that might not fit your criteria. Just throwing those out there in case.
You should definitely check out Fable 3! It has a great system for owning property and customizing it to your liking. Plus, there’s a fun overarching story to enjoy as you upgrade your home.
If you’re into farming simulation, consider games like Stardew Valley for a cozy vibe or Ranch Simulator for a more expansive experience. If you want an RPG, there are several out there that let you upgrade your living space.
