I’m looking for creative and off-meta builds for raids that don’t rely on Power Armor or heavy weapons. I’ve heard about full HP commando builds, but I’m interested in more unique options like bows or blackpowder weapons. Would something like a flamethrower with Holy Fire work, or other unconventional weapons? I don’t need my build to be top-tier, but I also want to contribute without being carried. I’m returning to the game after a year, so I’m a bit out of the loop with the latest strategies.

Holy Fire is a solid pick for certain raid parts, but again, it’s a heavy weapon. If you want to melee, it’s possible but requires some creativity. You might need to glitch onto platforms and stock up on coffee for jetpacking around to melee enemies while hovering—definitely a challenge!
Raids are definitely designed to challenge players, focusing on damage output and awareness. This can put many off-meta builds at a disadvantage, so if you really want to hold your own, an automatic weapon or Power Armor is likely necessary. Those creative roles usually revolve around supporting your teammates rather than being a primary damage dealer.
If you want to try out Holy Fire, definitely slap the Pyromaniac mod on it—works like a charm! But keep in mind it’s still classified as a heavy weapon, so you’ll need some perks to make it work well.
Honestly, there’s not a lot of viable options outside of PA or heavy guns for most of the raid. You can make it work in some sections, but it can be tricky. Only in specific phases, like the drill section, can you sometimes use lighter weapons without feeling completely useless.
Flamethrowers can be fun, but most players pair them with Power Armor to take advantage of the Stabilizer perk. From my experience running over 200 raids (I just got back into it), you can use various weapons if you’ve got a decent team of four; you’ll still hit those DPS checks. I haven’t seen anyone using bows, though, but I have come across some melee players who do okay without PA.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into that mod.
