I’m looking for game recommendations for those of us who can’t shell out for the Oblivion Remaster. I know there are older titles that capture a similar vibe but aren’t necessarily first-person RPGs. I’ve heard of games like Enclave, Risen, and Fable Anniversary. What other cheaper games do you think would run well and provide a great experience, aside from the original Oblivion, of course?

I’d say the original Oblivion is still a fantastic choice, especially at a low price. Plus, you can mod it extensively which enhances gameplay and visuals. There are some great free mods out there!
You might want to check out Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the original Oblivion, Skyrim, and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. All of them have great gameplay and carry that RPG charm without breaking the bank. Plus, there’s Enderal, which is an overhaul mod for Skyrim that offers a completely new experience!
Absolutely, those are solid picks! I’d also suggest considering The Witcher 3 if you can find it on sale. It’s a fantastic RPG.
Just be aware that if you dive into KCD, it might make going back to Oblivion a bit tough since KCD has more modern mechanics.
If you’re looking for something completely different but still engaging, check out Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. It’s similar to Fable and can usually be found cheaply.
That game is a hidden gem! Really enjoyable, especially for its price!
Honestly, go for Skyrim or Fallout 3/New Vegas if you want something more refined. Fable 1 & 2 are also great, even if they’re a bit different from Oblivion’s style.
It’s interesting how many people recommend games that are really different from what was asked. Like, I get it’s RPG, but some just don’t compare at all.
For those wanting to play Fable 2, you’ll need Game Pass unless you’re going for an older console.
If you’re into mods, you can definitely enjoy Skyrim with the upcoming Skyblivion mod when it drops. Otherwise, the OG Oblivion is still a classic. Just remember to add some visual mods for an upgraded experience!
Good point! I’ve seen some impressive mods for Oblivion that breathe new life into the game. Definitely going to give that a try.
Yeah, and it runs well on Steam Deck with the right mods!
