Hey everyone! I was curious if Notch and C418 were acknowledged in the end credits of the new Minecraft movie. I heard some of C418’s music in there and obviously, Notch is the original creator of Minecraft, even though he’s not involved anymore. It seems like they should still give him credit, right?

Yeah, they probably should credit Notch since he’s the original creator, similar to how Spider-Man movies still mention Stan Lee. But since Microsoft owns everything now, it’s more about their decision than a legal requirement. I wouldn’t be shocked if they just didn’t include them for whatever reason. It’s a bit of a bummer, though!
Honestly, I don’t think they are legally obligated to credit C418 since his music is uncopyrighted. But it would be a nice gesture considering he contributed a lot to the vibe of the game! Wouldn’t hurt to show some appreciation in the credits, though.
True, it’s likely just a courtesy thing rather than a strict rule. I just feel like it’s good to acknowledge the roots of such a huge game!
