I’ve reached Canny Valley, but I’m struggling with high-powered weapons. Sometimes people give me upgraded weapons, which they might do when they see me struggling. This happened again during a Home Base expansion when someone handed me an explosive weapon. I didn’t have anything to trade, and she left before it ended. What should I do in situations like this? Is it okay to just take the weapon? Or is trading always expected? I don’t want to upset anyone.

You’re not obligated to return the favor when someone gives you a weapon, especially if they didn’t ask for a trade. If an item is just dropped on the ground, generally it’s a free-for-all unless it’s clearly meant for you. Don’t worry too much about trading etiquette!
With so many duplicated weapons around, lots of players are quite liberal in handing out high-level guns. For example, when I was doing a high-level Storm Shield Defense, someone gave me a bunch of powerful weapons. They weren’t top-notch, so I just recycled them. No need to worry about returning the favor in these cases.
I can craft high-level weapons like a 144 Nocturno and a 130 Founder’s Drumroll with legendary perks. I find crafting more rewarding than relying on others for handouts.
Yes, sometimes players just give away weapons without expecting anything in return. If they’re not asking for a trade, I’d say don’t sweat it and just assume they were being generous.
I personally appreciate when someone hands me a high-level weapon like a 144 Nocturno. It’s always a nice surprise!
In the scenario you mentioned, it sounds like the person was just trying to help you out by giving you a weapon because they noticed you didn’t have one. Trading isn’t really a major part of Save the World mode. It’s primarily about gathering schematics and crafting your gear. If someone hands you a weapon during a fight, it usually means they see you could use a better one, and there’s no expectation for you to trade. If someone starts indicating they want to trade, like by standing around you and dropping stuff, it’s usually just a kid looking to swap items. You can just ignore them if you don’t want to trade.
