I’ve switched to playing as a ghoul this season, but I completely forgot to swap my armor from the overeater set. I’m currently using Vulcan armor and I’m debating whether it’s better to go with a complete Vanguard setup or mix it up with different types like Mutant Slayers, Assassins, and Zealots for more damage reduction effects. What do you all think?

To be honest, I’ve found the Nocturnal/Chameleon setup to be the way to go these days. The incremental benefit from Vanguard over a certain point isn’t really effective, and mixed sets of targeted resistance feel niche at times. The added stat bonuses from Nocturnal are solid and make a huge difference.
On power armor, I recommend focusing on type-specific reductions instead of just Vanguards. Power armor already grants substantial resistances. Personally, I run a full set of Troubleshooters because robots tend to hit hard. I’ve found that combo to outperform Vanguards.
I actually mix it up too, running 2x Troubleshooter’s, 2x Mutant Slayer’s, and 1 Hunter’s piece. This approach has worked much better for me compared to just sticking with Vanguards. It really helps against tougher enemies!
Mixing armor effects, like going with Slayer types, generally provides better protection. For my build, I’m running 1 Chameleon and 4 Nocturnal pieces. This combo really boosts my perception and agility, plus it enhances my AP regen, which is super helpful for staying in VATS longer with my V63 LC.
While Vanguard armor offers higher damage reduction, its benefits can diminish quite a bit. A mixed set of enemy-specific armor usually provides more advantages since it gives a flat -15% reduction against specific foes. I’ve noticed that for tougher enemies, like robots and super mutants, those targeted resists can be game-changers. Overall, balancing your armor types is key.
