I’m planning to upgrade my graphics card from a 2060 to a 3060 in order to run some basic games smoothly. I’ve noticed that the 2060 uses GDDR5 memory while the 3060 has GDDR6. My PSU seems adequate according to the Newegg PSU check, but I’m unsure about my motherboard. I believe it’s a Dorado Micro AXT something. I’ve read online that GDDR6 isn’t backward compatible with GDDR5, and I’m wondering if that means I need to upgrade other parts too. Any insights?

Glad to help out! Definitely no motherboard changes needed for this swap. Just enjoy the better gaming experience!
You shouldn’t need to upgrade your motherboard if it’s working fine with the 2060. If it handles the 2060, it should be good for the 3060 as well. Just keep an eye on your power supply to make sure it meets the requirements, but you mentioned that’s not an issue.
The jump from 2060 to 3060 offers a nice performance boost—about 16%. If you’re looking for an even bigger upgrade, consider the RX 7600; it’s around 37% better for a similar price! Just something to think about while you’re upgrading.
Totally agree! If your PSU is solid, just install the new card and you’re good to go.
