I’ve recently really grown fond of Tandemaus and Maushold—they’re just too cute! But I’ve started to wonder how their biology fits into the Pokémon universe. So, Tandemaus is classified as a single Pokémon made up of two creatures, while Maushold can represent one Pokémon that has three or four creatures. When a Tandemaus is born, do two individual creatures come into existence? Or should we think of it as two Maushold offspring that somehow combine to become a Tandemaus? Does it also imply that their Maushold parents transform back into a Tandemaus after they mate? Am I diving way too deep into this?

Yeah, the Pokémon games often simplify complicated biological ideas. Take Kangaskhan; it’s not born with its baby in its pouch. Game Freak just decided to keep it simple for gameplay purposes. The same principle likely applies to how Tandemaus works within the lore.
Honestly, try not to overthink it too much. If you really want to dive deep, you’d notice they can only breed with Ditto in the game. This might suggest a life cycle where Maushold ‘parents’ lose their ‘kids’ who then pair up elsewhere, and new babies come from the parents shortly after.
It feels a lot like a repeat of the Kangaskhan situation, right? It’s quite confusing! I keep questioning whether it’s actually okay to have a Tandemaus or Maushold as part of a team, given how they seem to operate as families in the games.
Exactly! And don’t forget about Exeggcute—it’s kind of in the same boat with its unique lore.
That’s so true! It makes me feel guilty when I catch them, as they just want to stay as a family.
