I’m trying to wrap my head around the different talent builds in the game, specifically single target, area-of-effect (AOE), and those suited for Mythic Plus dungeons. Should I focus on mastering one type, or is it better to be familiar with all of them? Also, how do I switch builds in the middle of a fight when I start with multiple mobs and then it shifts to single target later on?

It’s important to distinguish between AOE and Mythic Plus. AOE is about maximizing your damage to multiple targets. In Mythic Plus, you’ll want a mix of AOE and single target to manage bosses effectively. Going full AOE can hurt your single target damage, so many players use a hybrid approach. Getting the balance right makes a huge difference in your overall performance.
Single target is best when you’re facing just one boss. For AOE situations—like when you’re dealing with multiple enemies—you’ll want to use an AOE build. Mythic Plus dungeons often require AOE as well. It’s really handy to know both builds, and for a lot of classes, it’s as simple as changing one button and tweaking your rotation a little. You can’t actually switch builds while in a Mythic dungeon, so don’t stress about that too much. In raids, you can’t change your build during a fight either, but you can before each encounter. Lots of players switch to AOE for trash mobs and then back to single target for the bosses. Some bosses also have multiple targets, so having an AOE build can be beneficial there!
That’s super helpful! So it sounds like AOE is the way to go for leveling and in dungeons, right? For raids, focus on ST? I’ve been playing since the Outlands as a hunter and never paid much attention to rotations until now, but I’m definitely looking to learn more.
Exactly! AOE is practical for groups, while ST is generally preferred for bosses. It looks like you’re on the right track with your enhance shaman—good luck getting into healing too!
