Hey everyone! My friend and I are thinking of game sharing on our PS5s, and I have a few questions. I understand the general process, but I want to clarify some details. When I download a game from his account, am I right in thinking that his account needs to be set as ‘secondary’ on my console? This way, he won’t be able to access that game when he’s offline or playing on another account on his console, right? Then, if he switches it back to ‘primary,’ would that mean I won’t be able to access the game unless I’m online or am I missing something there? Also, if I delete his account from my console, can I still play the game that’s been downloaded? Is there any way for both of us to have full control over our consoles while game sharing? Thanks for the help!

So, here’s the deal – there’s no official ‘secondary’ status for PlayStation accounts. A console is either game shared or not. If you game share, you can still access your own games without any issues since you own them. However, if you delete your buddy’s account from your console, you won’t be able to access the games linked to that account anymore. Essentially, once the account is gone, so are the games, so keep that in mind!
Actually, there is a bit of terminology confusion here. When it comes to every account, PlayStation refers more to ‘primary’ and ‘non-primary’ consoles. If his account is set to primary on your console, you can share games. But if you delete his account, you’ll lose access to the games tied to it, even though they’re downloaded. Just make sure you both understand how to switch your primary settings to avoid issues. As for full control, one option might be to take turns switching primary on each other’s consoles for a limited time.
