I found this game I used to play back in 2018 called Madobu – Be the Dark Lord. Although I can still install it through the Google Play Store by accessing it via a browser, the game doesn’t work anymore. The touch inputs are not registering, and I’m a bit concerned about giving it permission to access my files as it makes me wonder if the game is malicious. Also, why is it not directly visible on the Google Play Store anymore? Anyone knows how to solve these issues or has information on why it was removed?

It sounds like the developers might not have updated the game’s API to be compatible with the latest Android versions. Google Play has strict guidelines around apps that are not kept up-to-date, so they might hide such games initially and potentially remove them completely in the future.
Just a word of caution, even if games work fine without permissions sometimes, it’s still a bit risky granting access in the first place. If you can avoid it, I’d hold off until you have more assurance it’s safe.
It’s unlikely that the game is malware if you remember it being fine before. Most likely it’s just become incompatible due to updates in the Android OS. To check safely, you could theoretically grant file access permission and then quickly revoke it. If the game functions after that, it might just be an old compatibility issue.
