I’m caught in a classic dilemma between two of my favorite JRPG series: Trails and Final Fantasy. While I adore the FF series, especially games like XI, XIV, VII, and X, I tend to put them on hold due to my completionist nature. I’ve heard some horror stories about getting sigils in FF X which has made me hesitant to finish it. On the other hand, I’m really enjoying the Trails of Cold Steel, but I miss the good old days of grinding for experience points. Are there any other Trails games you’d recommend?

For sure, Trails takes the cake! I’ve played through multiple Final Fantasy titles, but Trails has this depth with its characters and world-building that keeps me hooked. Plus, while grinding isn’t as much of a thing, understanding the game mechanics is a huge part of the challenge, which makes succeeding feel way more rewarding. If you’re looking to grind, Trails isn’t really the go-to, but you can still earn Sepith to enhance your characters when needed.
I’d definitely say Trails, especially for the storytelling. It’s nice to see how the characters develop across different games, each one building upon the last. Final Fantasy can be hit or miss for me because sometimes I crave that continuous narrative that Trails provides. But if you want action and fast-paced gameplay, FF does deliver on those fronts, just not as consistently!
