I’m planning not to use my Deck for a few months and I’ve been keeping an eye on the battery, charging it every few days. But is there anything else I should consider doing to keep it in good shape? I’ve been turning it on and off weekly, but I’m not sure if that actually helps. I’m not super tech-savvy, so any friendly advice would be appreciated!

Honestly, I’ve had similar experiences where I leave old tech untouched for ages, like an old PSP or iPhones, and they boot just fine too. But with newer devices, especially ones with hefty batteries like the Deck, it’s probably smarter to use the storage mode if you’re gonna leave it sitting for months.
One of the best things you can do is put your Deck into battery storage mode through the BIOS. To do this, just hold the volume up button while booting it up. This will keep the battery in a safe state for storing, but remember, you’ll need to plug it in next time you start it up.
If you want to go the fancy route, there’s a guide on iFixIt that shows you how to enable Steam Deck Battery Storage Mode. It’s nifty if you want a step-by-step to ensure everything’s done right. You might find it useful if you’re uneasy about fiddling in BIOS yourself.
