Hey everyone! I’m pretty new to PC gaming and I’m trying to get a better grasp on optimizing graphics and frame rates. I’m using an HP Omen 1440p, 240Hz HDR monitor with an AMD 7800 XT. I’ve noticed that my GPU utilization is only between 50%-75% when I’m using Super Resolution to upscale from 1080p to 1440p. I can keep my frame rate around 165Hz, but I’m really aiming for 240Hz since that’s what my monitor can handle. I’ve mainly encountered this issue while playing Apex Legends, as my other games like Call of Duty and Battlefield run fine. I could really use some advice on how to improve my performance in Apex. Thanks in advance!

What CPU are you using? Checking its utilization could give some insights. Your GPU is solid—I think that initial comment might be missing the mark a bit! Focus on balancing both components to maximize your performance.
Honestly, you’re not likely to reach 240 fps in Apex with your current setup. The 7800 XT is good, but hitting 240 fps at 1440p—even with upscaling—is a tall order unless you’re playing less demanding games. You’ve got a decent GPU, but that resolution is pretty heavy.
You can definitely hit that 240 fps if you set most settings to low, except for model and map detail. I hit around 160 fps at 1440p on my setup, so it’s doable!
I have a 7700 XT too, and I can reach 240 fps on my 1440p monitor. I don’t always use low settings, but with the right configuration, your 7800 XT could do it too. Just make sure to turn off any upscaling and frame generation while playing FPS games like Apex—that should help reduce latency.
