I recently completed Ultra Sun for the first time using an emulator and now I’m tackling the postgame challenges at Rocket castle. While exploring, I encountered Archie and faced his Kyogre, which wiped out my entire team (Latios, Necrozma, Alolan Muk, Type: Null, Alolan Ninetales, and Blacephalon). I had Alolan Ninetales ready to handle his Sharpedo and Mightyena, but it took a massive hit from Sharpedo’s Liquidation and was knocked out by Crobat’s Sludge Bomb before I could hit back with Extrasensory. Unfortunately, switching to Latios, Type: Null, or Necrozma resulted in Crobat stalling me with Toxic, which weakened my Pokémon for the showdown with Kyogre. Alolan Muk is my best bet with its high Special Defense; it can survive one Water Spout and deal solid damage. Blacephalon’s only role is to outspeed and land a Shadow Claw since Kyogre’s Defense is low. I got Kyogre down to 25% health, but I’m still struggling to secure the win. Any advice on strategies would be super helpful!

The simplest way to beat Kyogre is to make its HP drop to zero while keeping your Pokémon alive. This strategy is pretty reliable in general!
Kyogre automatically starts rain when it enters, so consider bringing an electric special attacker with Thunder. In the rain, Thunder has perfect accuracy! You’ll want to outspeed or use a Focus Sash to survive the hit.
If you can access one, consider using Mimikyu with Curse – it’s an egg move you can get from Gastly, and it can really turn the tide!
I didn’t include Mimikyu because it overlaps with my Decidueye and Ninetales. Also, I’m new to breeding and not familiar with how to get it.
I used an electric Pokémon when I fought Kyogre, though my team was at level 90! It made the battle a lot easier.
Kyogre may not be that fast, and its Water Spout damage depends on its max HP. Teach Latios Thunderbolt and have Alolan Ninetales set up Light Screen to halve the damage. Take down Mightyena first, then switch to Latios to tank Liquidation and KO Sharpedo. Send in Muk afterward to finish Kyogre since it can handle its attacks much better with that setup.
Try setting up screens with Alolan Ninetales to reduce the damage from Kyogre’s attacks! You can also use Toxic to wear it down. Just remember to protect Muk to give it a chance to recover some health in between.
Oh, I totally forgot Muk could use Toxic! Thanks for the tip!
If you’re struggling with Toxic, a Steel-type might do the trick since they resist Poison moves. It could help you stay healthier during the battle.
I didn’t have one on my team during the playthrough, and I’m not sure if Steel-types are available at this battle’s level cap.
Haha, thanks for the reminder! I was kind of distracted healing my Pokémon instead of focusing on defeating it.
