Hey all! I’m on the hunt for my very first Steam Deck and spotted a gently used LCD model for a great price down under. Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to pick some brains about what else I should check besides the usual stuff like ports, audio jack, speaker sound, joystick drift, button responsiveness, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth function, battery health, and charging indicators. This one is a 256GB LCD version, made in 2023, with 96% battery health, includes the original case, and comes with some DBrand accessories. I’m also thinking about upgrading the SSD to a Samsung 512GB drive with roughly 2200MB/s write and 1230MB/s read speeds — would that be a good upgrade? Any other advice when buying used Steam Decks? I bought a used LCD Steam Deck too, and honestly it was almost like new. The key thing is to inspect it closely in person if possible. Look out for any physical wear, especially on the screen and controls. The battery health you mentioned (96%) sounds solid, and your planned Samsung SSD upgrade sounds great — those speeds are definitely good and should make your load times snappy.
You’ve pretty much covered all the important checks there. If the price is right and everything functions smoothly, I’d say go for it. Just make sure to test it hands-on if you can, especially the joysticks and buttons since those are common wear points.
I grabbed a secondhand LCD Steam Deck from a local seller, and it was barely used. Everything was perfect except a tiny bit of drift on the left joystick since the previous owner was into FPS games. If the price reflects that minor issue, it’s still a sweet deal. Otherwise, it’s a good idea to ask about usage habits and test joysticks thoroughly.
