Hey everyone! I’m currently using Windows 10 on my HP ProBook 645 G4, but I’m looking to switch to Linux since my laptop isn’t the most powerful. Here are my specs: AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 2700U with Radeon Vega 10 and 24 GB of RAM. I’ve connected my AOC monitor via HDMI. I mainly play games like COD MW3, COD MW2, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Minecraft, Krunker, Factorio, Roblox, and some FNAF fan games. I also use software like VSCode for programming and Postman. My questions are: 1. Can I run my games and software on Linux? 2. If I can, can I just play them from my HDD without needing to re-download? 3. Do crack sites support Linux? 4. What’s the best distro for gaming and programming? 5. Does Linux have good multi-monitor support? Also, I have faced issues with my laptop’s IGPU in the past with multiple distros and had trouble with drivers. Any insights would be appreciated!

Both Linux Mint and Fedora should work fine for your needs. While you might not see a massive boost in performance compared to Windows, most of the games you mentioned should run smoothly. Roblox might be the exception, but otherwise, you should be good to go!
Before you switch, definitely check compatibility on ProtonDB for your games. Most should run fine on Linux, except possibly for COD. For running them from an HDD, you’ll need to handle some mounting configurations, but it’s doable. And yes, any Windows EXE files can run through Proton or Wine as long as they’re configured properly.
Appreciate it! I’ll check out ProtonDB for COD.
I’ve used Artix with Heroic Games Launcher, and it works pretty well! As for your setup, don’t stress too much about the issues; it’s normal to have a learning curve. Just make sure you keep your drivers updated as some setups may have minor hiccups, especially with IGPU support.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll try Artix and see how it goes.
Let’s break it down: 1. Most of your games should run well! Check ProtonDB for each game’s compatibility. 2. You can run games from your HDD, but using Wine or Steam is recommended to avoid issues. Just move your game files to the correct Steam folder after installing Steam on Linux. 3. Cracked games can be managed through Lutris, which helps install and run them easily. 4. I’d suggest trying Nobara or CatchyOS for a great experience; they’re both Arch-based and user-friendly for gaming. 5. Multi-monitor support is typically good, especially on Gnome or KDE environments.
Thanks for the clarification! So I can definitely run cracked games with Lutris?
You should be able to get most of those games running, especially if you use something like a Prism-Launcher for Minecraft. Just a heads up, playing from pre-installed games isn’t ideal – stick with re-installing them through Steam when possible. Also, compatibility isn’t a problem usually, just check how they unpack and if your sources are reliable.
Thanks! I’ll look into those options.
