I’m weighing my options between getting a 5070 Ti for €900 or a 9070 XT for €750. I’m leaning toward AMD mostly because of the power connector design and the higher price of Nvidia cards. However, I’ve only used Nvidia GPUs for the last 20 years, so I’m feeling a bit uncertain about the switch. My main concerns include random black screens (I’ve seen some posts here about that), high hotspot temperatures, unexpected power spikes, and drivers. I’m curious about your personal experiences, especially if you’ve transitioned from Nvidia to AMD after a long time. What do you think about these concerns? Thanks for any insights!

I switched from Nvidia to AMD after years with them and haven’t faced any issues over the last two years. Honestly, it’s been smooth sailing for me!
High hotspot temps? Well, keep in mind Nvidia doesn’t let you see as much sensor data as AMD does. That said, both cards can draw 300-350W temporarily, and while AMD might have brief spikes, if you have a decent PSU (like over 750W), you should be fine. My current setup handles it without any hiccups.
I have a 9070 XT that I switched to from a 3070, and honestly, it’s been fantastic. But make sure to do a proper clean installation before swapping. Older AMD cards had their issues, but they seem to be on par with Nvidia now. Just check out models that don’t use the confusing 12VHPWR connector if it bugs you that much.
Right now, Nvidia’s drivers have some issues, especially with the 50 series cards. So if you’re worried about that, you’re not alone. Just check the exact model of the 9070 XT you’re looking at—some use the problematic 12V2x6 connector.
Sounds like you’re worried about the same things that current Nvidia users are dealing with. Definitely a valid concern, but when you look at performance metrics, AMD cards are not too shabby. There’s a lot of performance throttling going on with Nvidia too, especially if sensors trigger from overheating.
Right, I guess every brand has its quirks. I just want to make sure I’m making a sound decision.
I do have an 850W ATX 3.0 PSU, so sounds like I’m good on that front!
