Hey everyone! I’ve clocked 300 hours on my high elf DPS character and I’m tempted to create a second character to try out tanking or healing. I have all classes available, so I want to make a smart choice. However, I’m a bit nervous about the process. Is it really as tedious as it sounds to level a new character? I don’t want this to feel like a full-time job, especially since I’m not looking to create characters just for earning in-game money.
I realize I’ll need to level up to 50 to get access to all champion points, but I want advice on what else I should be aware of. Do I have to max out crafting skills on this new character too? If I have decent gear on my main, can I just pull that gear from my bank for the new character? If I want to create a solid tank or healer, what do I really need to focus on leveling for that second character?
I really appreciate any insights from your experiences. Thanks a bunch!

Hey there! I’ve found that leveling a second character isn’t as painful as it seems. The grind to 50 is definitely the toughest part. What you can do is craft a full set of Training gear on your main and just pull it from the bank for your new character which makes leveling smoother. Unfortunately, you can’t transfer bound gear, but crafted sets work great!
A quick heads up—your crafting skills won’t transfer, so you’ll need to level those up again. If you’re into crafting, having a second character can be worth it for daily writs, but if you’re not keen on that grind for more than one character, it might feel overwhelming. For tanking, I suggest starting with a Dragon Knight and check out “The Tank Club Beginner Guide 2025” on YouTube for solid tips. Happy adventuring in Tamriel!
Managing multiple characters can be a pain for sure! You’ll have to redo a lot of the initial grinding—like quests and skill points. If you’ve got a main character, you might want to consider subclassing that character into a tank build instead. It’ll save you some of that leveling pain, and you can quickly switch between builds using the armory system.
I say go for it! Leveling the new character is pretty straightforward. While you’ll need to re-level certain skill lines like alliance, mages, etc., it does take several months to max everything, but the grind is worth it. Plus, you can take advantage of daily rewards and events to help speed things along!
