Hey everyone! I’m super excited to be getting my first Steam Deck and I’ve got a few questions before I dive in. I’m leaning towards the 512GB OLED model, but I’m curious if it has the same performance as the 1TB version? From what I can tell, the storage and the premium anti-glare glass are the only differences. Also, I’m new to gaming on a PC, so is there a way to find out which Steam games are good to play on the Deck? Finally, how does it feel to use? The button placement looks a bit unusual, and with no stores nearby to try it out, I’m relying on your wisdom. Thanks, and I can’t wait to join the Steam Deck crew!

Don’t worry about the button layout; a lot of people find it surprisingly intuitive. Some folks mention the deck being too heavy if you game for hours, but if that’s an issue, resting it on a pillow or something helps. The grip and buttons can be adjusted depending on what you’re playing, so customize it to suit your style. If size or weight isn’t a big deal for you, you’ll probably find it quite comfy to use over time.
I went for the 512GB model and added an anti-glare screen protector myself, then expanded my storage later on. It was still cheaper than getting the 1TB model right off the bat. In terms of games, most older titles up to 2023 run great, but some newer releases or games with anti-cheat software might not work perfectly. But for single-player and non-intensive titles, it’s awesome. Also, it definitely looks a little funny, but it’s super comfy! I’ve been gaming for hours without any aches or pains.
Got myself the 1TB version a little while back, and it’s been a blast! Honestly, if you’re worried about space, go for less storage and just upgrade later if you need to. The Steam Deck was a huge step up from my old Switch – I’ve played a bunch like Hades and waiting to dive into Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
The performance between the 512GB and 1TB versions is exactly the same, so you won’t notice any difference beyond storage space. For the games, you can check on ProtonDB to see how well they run on the Steam Deck. As for the controls and how it feels, it’s actually much more comfortable than it looks. The design feels pretty balanced, and the ergonomics work surprisingly well over long sessions.

I’m on the larger side myself, and it’s all good. The customizability of the controls really keeps it user-friendly, so you’ll adapt quickly.
