Hey everyone! I’m getting back into gaming after a 20-year hiatus, and I’ve switched from Xbox to PlayStation. I just bought a used PS4 on eBay (arriving Wednesday), mainly for my kids. They’re pretty young (5 and 10), and I picked up games that I loved, such as The Last of Us Remastered, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, and Destiny 2. I’ve got a few questions as I navigate this new console:
1. What’s the transition from Xbox to PlayStation like? I feel a bit lost since I haven’t gamed in so long and would need to relearn Xbox anyway.
2. Does the PS4 still hold up well against newer consoles? I’d prefer to wait for a PS5 until I’m sure my family enjoys gaming.
3. Any good, easy games for kids that’ll help them learn to use a controller?
4. I’m into linear games like Halo and Medal of Honor—any recommendations?
5. I’d love any game recommendations you have! Thanks a bunch for your help!

Switching from Xbox to PS4 is pretty seamless; the button layout is similar enough. For easy games for the kids, check out Lego games or Untitled Goose Game. For you, I highly recommend the Uncharted series or God of War for that linear gameplay!
Those games are classics! You’re in for some fun!
I just got a used PS4 Pro after years away from consoles. Honestly, I’ve been having a blast! It’s a great system!
Little Big Planet is a fantastic choice that will keep your kids busy for hours! Coming from Xbox, you might find the PS4’s touchpad a bit strange at first, but it adds some neat features to gameplay. Definitely give Sackboy a shot, the kids will love it!
Awesome! I got Sack Boy based on the recommendation—can’t wait to see if they enjoy it!
Haha, just discovered that Sackboy is from LittleBigPlanet! Totally getting it now!
For the kids, I’d say Fortnite is a solid recommendation! It has a zero-build mode now, which makes it easier for beginners. Also, Call of Duty could be fun, though it’s more for older audiences. Don’t worry about the PS4 vs. PS5 difference too much; they won’t notice it. Just enjoy gaming with them!
Thanks! I’ve let them play some games on their iPads, so I think they’ll adapt just fine to the controls!
Sounds like a plan! It’s all about the fun, right?
Minecraft is another hit with kids! Plus, No Man’s Sky is now quite friendly after updates. For your gaming taste, Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Zero Dawn are also fantastic linear games!
Great choices! Those have solid stories to keep you hooked.
I hadn’t thought of No Man’s Sky! I’ll definitely check that out.
Great suggestions, thanks! I totally forgot Spider-Man was part of my bundle, I’ve heard it’s a must-play.
