Hey folks, looking for some easy-going survival game recommendations for my wife. She’s not into horror stuff like The Forest, and she felt the base building in Stranded Deep was a bit too basic. Ideally, something currently on Extra or not too pricey would be great. Any ideas?

I know you mentioned your wife didn’t enjoy The Forest, but did you try turning off the enemies with story mode? Makes it way less stressful than dealing with the usual mayhem.
Stranded Deep is actually quite relaxing once you get used to the mechanics. It’s nice to just roam around an island without worrying about being attacked. A good option if you’re not too worried about in-depth building options.
Dysmantle is a surprisingly chill game with a nice balance of exploration and survival elements. I spent nearly 100 hours on it and had a blast! However, it might feel a bit repetitive to some people after a while, so keep that in mind.
Yeah, it does start to feel a bit like a mobile game with all the unlockables, but if that’s not a bother, it can be fun.
Check out The Long Dark! While it might not have deep base building, it’s got great survival mechanics and a chill vibe if you play on a lower difficulty setting. My wife recently tried it and really enjoyed it, so it might be a good fit for you too!
Isn’t it still only 30 fps? That really threw me off. Can’t play if it gives me a headache.
I highly recommend giving Subnautica a shot. If you haven’t claimed it when it was free before, it might still be available on Extra. The base building is super cool, and the survival aspect doesn’t feel too intense, which could be perfect for those laidback gaming sessions.
Totally forgot about Subnautica! Going to download it now for her.
If you’re up for a bit of a gamble, try ‘Dredge’ which is out there, or maybe even ‘Deadcraft’. They’re a bit different, but could offer something unique if you’re willing to explore.
That can be so dull, though. Without the threat, the excitement just goes down the drain.
