I’m completely new to video gaming, aside from a few super simple games on the Switch. My partner plays on the PS4 and I really enjoy watching him play titles like The Last of Us and God of War. I’m looking for game recommendations that are suitable for a beginner like me. I’d love to find a game that has a good storyline, focuses on exploration, and doesn’t involve combat at all. Games like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley don’t appeal to me visually, so I prefer something more realistic. I’m also a fan of fantasy books and would love a game that reflects that kind of storytelling. I plan to play on the easiest mode and will take my time to learn. Any compelling story-based games you can recommend?

If you’re looking for a great beginner-friendly game, I highly recommend Firewatch. It’s a walking simulator with simple controls, where you navigate using a map and compass. The graphics are pleasant, and it has a captivating story with great character development. Plus, there’s no combat involved, so it’s perfect for your needs!
Have you considered playing WaveTale? It’s really beginner-friendly and lets you adjust combat settings to make things easier. The game is all about following a story, riding through waves, and doing simple platforming. Just be sure to look up the art style to see if you like it!
You should definitely check out Portal 1 and 2. They are fun puzzle games that focus on exploration and problem-solving rather than combat. They have interesting stories and unique gameplay mechanics.
For something really unique, I’d suggest The Outer Wilds. It’s a fantastic exploration game that has one of the best stories out there and will likely capture your love for fantasy storytelling while being a total beginner-friendly experience!
I came here to recommend this too! It’s super accessible and the story has been so good that I’ve actually used it in my English classes for years!
