I logged off in a cave just before getting hit by mobs, and now I’m worried about logging back in. There are two zombie spawners nearby, and I’m deep enough that retrieving my items seems impossible if I die. Do mobs despawn when I’m offline? Any tips on surviving this cave adventure or recovering my items if things go south?

If you’re on a server, changing the rules to keep inventory on death and then switching it back might save you here. When you log back in, you’re immune for a few seconds. Use that time to block yourself in and heal up. Just make sure to back up your save before trying this so you can give it another shot if it doesn’t work out.
For Java users, you might want to resort to third-party tools like a world editor to block yourself in. There are mods like gravestone mods that create a gravestone when you die, storing your items so they’re safe until you can return. Another tactic is digging straight down from where you died, using ladders to make a checkpoint and retrieve your items easily.
Good call on the gravestone mod! If you plan it right, you can recover your items leisurely. Digging down might be risky, but with ladders, it does become like a mini safety zone.
Keep inventory might stop you from getting achievements, kinda annoying. Also, backups are a lifesaver, but once I log in, I’m toast instantly. Can anyone confirm if keep inventory is available in Java?
