Hey everyone, I recently picked up Resident Evil 2 and I’m really enjoying it, but I keep running into a couple of frustrating issues. I’m currently at the goddess puzzle part, and I’ve been having a tough time with the constant backtracking to find key items that I either missed or need. It feels punishing to have to roam around without a guide.
Another major problem I’m facing is the severe lack of ammo. I barely have enough bullets to take down one zombie, which forces me to avoid fights completely. Often, there are narrow hallways where I can’t get past due to a zombie blocking the way, and sneaking past only leads to getting hit. I really wanted to dive into the Resident Evil franchise, but the backtracking and relentless zombies are driving me crazy. Also, those lickers? Absolutely terrifying!
Could anyone share some survival tips regarding ammo conservation and whether the backtracking gets worse later in the game?

Only shoot zombies in areas where you plan to return frequently, like the library or armory. For places like the west hallway, just bolt cutter your way through and leave the zombies behind. Make sure to check your map often to strategize your route! The red rooms indicate there’s still stuff to grab, so go explore but weigh risks too. Remember, you can usually avoid lickers—except one that shows up near C4. Play smart, and you’ll get the hang of it!
Running away is often the best tactic! Focus on staggering enemies instead of outright killing them. Save your ammo; you’ll need it as the game goes on. Aim for headshots to increase your chances of critical hits for enemies that must go down. Don’t forget the healing items scattered about—they’re your lifeline. Also, brace yourself for a boss battle after the three medallions. You can manage it with a few knives and one grenade, maybe toss in a flashbang too just in case. Stay alert for those lickers—they’re blind, remember? You can usually sneak past them if you’re careful!
The backtracking is a key part of the game’s design. You really don’t need to kill every zombie you see! Just shoot them a couple of times in the legs and manage to slip by unless you’ll be returning to an area often. For the lickers, you can actually walk past them since they’re blind—just make sure to keep quiet. Also, don’t hesitate to use healing items instead of wasting ammo when you’re low. It’s all about managing your resources in classic survival horror.
