Hey everyone! I just picked up an ASUS TUF OC RTX 5080, and I’m really disappointed with the performance. I’m only hitting around 60fps in games, and I have all settings maxed out—no DLSS, no Frame Generation, and no Anti-Aliasing, with resolution set to 1920×1080. I was expecting to see at least 100fps since my old RTX 3060 was giving me 50-60fps. This is my first time playing Diablo IV since the expansion dropped, so I’m wondering if it could be related to that. Is this kind of performance expected with this card?

Should be getting much better performance than that. TBH using DLSS doesn’t really decrease visual quality at all in fast paced games like Diablo4. Image quality looks virtually identical to me with DLSS Balanced as it does using DLAA (native resolution) but get higher FPS with DLSS Balanced. I average 160-180fps (in busy areas with other players it may drop to around 140fps if they are playing a class with lots of visual effects like Ball Lightning Sorc) with my 3080ti on my 49″ Super UltraWide (5120×1440) using DLSS Balanced (no Ray Tracing as makes virtually no difference to me visually but drastically lowers FPS). I have HDR enabled as well.
The 5080 will probably be a little CPU bottlenecked with an 11th gen CPU, but not enough to make that much difference (unless only using 16GB RAM).
There is a great YT video by “ALBU Performance” explaining all the D4 graphical settings and what should be left on High & what should be disabled or lowered (most of the changes make very little difference performance-wise without losing hardly any detail in the image).
Make sure you’ve downloaded the latest NVIDIA drivers. Sometimes, outdated drivers can really bottleneck performance. Have you done a clean installation of the drivers?
Honestly, with an RTX 5080, you should be getting way better performance. I run a 4080 Super, and I can get around 240fps at 1440p or 120fps at 4K with DLAA and Frame Generation on. Are you using ray tracing? That can be a serious resource hog, try using DLDSR if you want better visuals without hurting your fps too much.
I have a 4090, and I’m getting 60-70 fps maxed out without DLSS or Frame Generation. You should definitely try turning on DLSS—it can bump your fps to around 120-160. Just to note, I’m running at an ultrawide resolution of 3440×1440, so that might also affect performance.
Been having fluctuating fps on my 1440p setup as well lately. It seems to spike and dip a lot, especially after that new update that messed with HDR settings. It could be the game itself having performance issues since the update.
First off, what CPU are you using? That RTX 5080 should easily crush games at 1080p. If your CPU is bottlenecking, that could explain the low fps. Just curious, what are your CPU specs?
I’m running an 11900K at 4.9GHz across all cores.
Yeah, I did a full clean install today after setting up the GPU.
