Hey fellow gamers! I’ve recently tried out my shiny new 5090 GPU on Diablo 4, and I’m really confused about the performance I’m getting. I’m playing at 5120×1440 resolution with an older 5800X CPU and 32GB of RAM. I noticed that I’m getting inconsistent FPS with low CPU and GPU usage, which seems odd. Sometimes with ray tracing on, I only hit 50 FPS, regardless of the DLSS settings I choose. When I turn ray tracing off, the FPS can go up to 100, but I still don’t see a clear impact from DLSS. Frame generation doesn’t seem to change anything either. My CPU usage is about 40%, so while I know it’s a bit dated, I expected better performance. I came across a video showing someone with the same CPU getting better results. Can anyone help me understand what’s going wrong here?

I’d skip using frame generation or ray tracing since they seem to mess things up right now. Honestly, the Nvidia drivers for the 5000 series are a bit wonky at the moment. You could try rolling back to an older driver to see if it improves things. I usually disable frame generation and reflex too because they’ve caused crashes for me. Vsync can also be a culprit; maybe double-check if it’s turned on anywhere! I have a 4080 with a 5800X3D, and I get around 120 FPS at 3440×1440 with DLAA, just capping the frame rate at 97 for this game, which could help you as well.
I’ve actually turned off vsync on all fronts too, and I can definitely push more FPS than my monitor supports in other games. I think I’ve figured something out though: when I set the graphics in-game to max settings and reboot, I do see a performance boost, but if I try to optimize things through the Nvidia app, the performance drops! It’s weird but I guess I’ll stick to enjoying the game as it is for now and wait for better drivers!
