I’ve been diving into Cataclysm as a Druid and I’m hitting some walls with the snapshotting mechanic. I’ve been following the Maxroll build closely and have all the gear I need, except for Shroud and an amulet. My amulet does have the right tempers and cooldown reduction, so that should help.
I’ve watched the guide video so many times, but I can only get this snapshotting to work properly a couple of times. I see my damage jump from 400-500M up to about 25B when it actually happens. The frustrating part is that sometimes the snapshot just disappears inexplicably during its duration. Plus, whenever I let Cataclysm finish to try again, I end up with zero spirit, which cuts off my ability to use Pulverize and get started on the loop again.
Is anyone else facing this issue, or is it just my bad luck? I’ve played DoK Rogue for most of last season, so I have a decent grasp of snapshotting, but this feels way more challenging than before.

I find snapshotting a bit tougher on console with all the extra button inputs. Bear skills often reset things, which makes it tough. If you’re not feeling it with snapshotting, maybe change things up a bit. It’s meant to be fun!
Honestly, I don’t think console is the issue. I played a lot on PC and dealt with similar problems. I think those runes just throw you off your flow a lot more than they should!
I totally get where you’re coming from. Snapshot builds can be tricky! A trick that worked for me is preparing your quick shift stacks while Cataclysm is still active, so you capitalize on your unlimited spirit. Keep an eye on your hurricane and let your igni ramp up before it fills. When you finish Cataclysm, fill up your Bac and hit earthen bulwark right before you trigger Cataclysm again. It definitely takes practice, but it’s possible to nail it down! Also, remember that even with everything set perfectly, there can still be some damage variance based on other aspects you have, so don’t be too hard on yourself!
Thanks for the solid advice! I think I might have been too rigid with my approach. I’ll try prepping differently next time I run it and see if that helps.
Also, just a heads up, managing your spirit is key. Don’t waste it on Pulverize too early! Maybe try figuring out a different timing for the skills.
Man, I hear ya! I’ve been there too. When playing as a Cataclysm Druid, I always cast Pulverize just before I’m about to trigger the other damage-proc skills. Make sure you’re getting it about 3/4 full before running in to proc your buffs. Once you’ve got that down, hit bulwark, and then Cataclysm right after. Timing is everything!
That makes sense! I think I might be focusing too much on timing rather than actually filling my spirit first. Gonna give that a shot.
I managed to one-shot bosses with that timing before, even with no leveled glyphs using a similar setup. It just clicks after a bit of practice.
Right? Just because it’s on a controller doesn’t mean you can’t master it. The challenge is just part of the fun, but it can be a pain!
