I’m at a tough part in the main story where a massive battle takes place. I’ve gathered all the allies I can find, but I’m getting completely overwhelmed. I’m currently level 19 and focused on archery (probably not the best choice after my Skyrim experience). I’ve tried the fight three times, and each time I’m chased by around 20 enemies! I can kite them fairly well—I quick save after taking out a few—but eventually, one crucial character gets killed while I’m darting around trying to escape the horde. How can I keep this character alive against so many attackers?

Are you rushing into the Great Gate when it opens? The best tactic seems to be going in right after Martin is free from combat. Just a heads up, you only get 15 minutes before it closes, so don’t get sidetracked! If nothing else works, consider lowering the difficulty for a bit.
I’m in a similar spot! At level 25, I also struggled to keep Martin alive during that battle. I just started over and thought I’d play through the main quest at a lower level for some extra practice. It’s frustrating, but might help!
That’s a classic issue with Oblivion’s scaling! As you level up, the enemies get tougher, often unfairly. You might have to resort to tweaking the difficulty or using some overpowered spells/enchantments to make it easier.
If it’s too tough, don’t feel bad about lowering the difficulty. Sometimes, just to move forward, it’s necessary. If you want to stick with it, maybe take a step back to level up your gear or do some enchanting before you tackle the fight again.
Definitely make sure to use enchanted arrows if you’re sticking with archery. I love using arrows of immolation—they’re a game changer! Hit me up if you need help with enchanting.
Thanks for all the tips, everyone! I went back to an earlier save, stocked up on potions, and focused more on Martin instead of kiting. It was still a major pain, but I managed to get through it! Lol.
At level 38, I had to babysit Martin with constant healing until I could finally run for the objective. I also had enough enchantments and a custom damage reflection spell to keep myself alive during the chaos.
If you have a high enough Illusion skill, cast a 100% chameleon spell on Martin. It worked for me when I was level 34—he basically becomes untouchable!
