My fiancée and I are diving into Baldur’s Gate 3 as a wizard and a barbarian duo, but we’re hitting a wall. After the tutorial, we find ourselves stuck trying to navigate through the beach area and the cathedral. We’ve met characters like Stormheart, Gale, Astarion, and others, but no matter who we take into battles, we end up failing at the cathedral. Should we just keep trying, or are we missing out on something important? We’re completely new to this franchise and aiming to avoid spoilers from guides.

What difficulty are you playing on? If you’re struggling, it might help to take a break and regroup. You could try tackling the cathedral in parts. Remember, you can rest in between encounters to heal and recharge spells—don’t feel pressured to clear it all at once!
Have you thought about using dialogue options? Some conflicts can be resolved without jumping into a fight, which might save you a lot of trouble! It’s worth a shot instead of just going in swinging.
If you keep struggling with a fight, it might be time to rethink your strategy or just come back later when you’re better equipped. Try luring enemies away or using your environment—like dropping something on them from above. Sneaky maneuvers can really change the tide!
That makes sense! The first time we totally got separated and my wizard got taken out in one hit. The second time we tried some deception but ended up walking into an ambush!
In the first fight, I like to send Astarion around the back while the others charge from the front. During their chat, switch over and get a surprise attack in! Also, don’t forget the pendulum above—hit it with an arrow or firebolt to take out enemies below!
Thanks for the advice! We’ve been stuck on the first encounter at the cathedral and we’re playing on normal difficulty.
